- Music Journalist
Hello! My name is Lauren and I am a music journalist from Austin, Texas. Music is my biggest passion and I love everything about it - writing, listening, playing, and the creative and business sides. My musical beginnings started at age 5, when I discovered The Grateful Dead through my parents who are huge fans. From then on, I knew that I wanted to go into music. I started playing drums at the age of 11, and I began playing in various non serious bands when I was 17. When I enrolled in college two years later, I put music on the back burner for years. When I was 21, I decided to move to Charleston, South Carolina, after getting admitted to the College of Charleston, where I wanted a change from my hometown of San Jose, California. After a year, I moved to Austin, TX where I decided to focus entirely on music. I majored in Music Business, Performance, and Technology at Austin Community College, where I graduated from in May of 2013. Listen Here began as a final school project, as a way to combine all of the things I learned in the program. When I decided to become a music journalist, I needed a way to display my skills, so Listen Here was born.

Hello! Overall, I liked your performance, though I felt the song was slightly too big for you. At points during some of the high notes it felt that the vocals were a bit lacking and weren't as powerful as they could be, though this can be improved with practice. The songs sound would also improve dramatically if you have a band backing you. Good luck!
Hi Steve, First, its great that you both are getting out there particularly in your later years. Good for you! The first thing that comes to mind is what is the audience that you are trying to reach? Of course, the widest audience is younger people, and the song definitely sounds like something an older person would listen to. I think something else to keep in mind too, is what characteristics in a song pulls the general public in and makes a song a hit? No matter what genre you are writing in, if a song doesn't connect with people, its going to fall flat. This goes for both small and huge bands. These are the two biggest things about your music that I think you need to focus on. Other than that, you are on your way! Lauren
Hello! I absolutely loved the song. I felt that the guitar really became the centerpiece of the track and made it memorable. Vocals sounded, drums sounded great, and I have no complaints or ways for you to improve it. Good luck with the release :)
Hi Jason, I loved the sound of the track and how you incorporated all the different sounds. There's nothing bad that I can say about it. Fantastic job and I wish you the best of luck with the release of your music! Lauren
Hi Carla! I liked the song and thought it had a great sound! While the video was artistic, I felt like the outfits changing colors were a bit distracting and detracted from the song. Please feel to send me more new music as you have it. Thanks!
Hi guys! I LOVE the song, great job! I love the funkiness and overall catchiness of the song. If people haven't discovered you guys yet, they are in for a treat. Feel free to send me more new music in the future. Best of luck!
Hello! Thanks for submitting "Endless Road." I loved the loved the beat and how the guitars really made the song. Everything about the track worked well and had a great flow. There's nothing to improve on. Please feel free to send more new music.
Hi Jay! I loved the song and how you channeled something that was negative into something positive. The guitars were sounding great too and the lyrics were well written. I would love to hear more of your songs, so send them my way when you have them. Thanks, Lauren
Hi guys! Thanks for submitting your music! I love what I heard and everything about it was positive for me, no complaints at all. I thought all the instruments and different sounds went really well together, and the vocals were spot on. Please feel free to submit more new music when you have it.
Hello! I really enjoyed the song and I loved how you spelled out everything with the rocks! I thought the strings really complimented the track and made everything come to together nicely. Hope to hear more music from you soon!
Hi guys! I really enjoyed the song and I have nothing bad to say about it. I enjoyed the creativity behind it and that it was entirely your own work. I would love to hear more songs from you in the future. All the best, Lauren
Hi Richard, Thanks for submitting! I'm loving your old fashioned old country sound. It reminds me of Johnny Cash a little bit :) The only suggestion that I can give you is that lyrics are repetitive. The song has good bones but the lyrics could use a bit more detail. Thanks, Lauren
Hello Eric! Thanks so much for submitting. I love your playing style and your unique voice! You are off to a great start with your music. Is this the overall style or will you be releasing something heavier? Would love to hear you play some different styles. All the best! Lauren
Hey guys! Thanks for sending me more new music. I really liked the song, though the only thing I would change is the beat. I would have liked to hear the song with a mid tempo beat since the last part of the track was slower. Looking forward to hearing what you send me next.
Hey guys, Thanks for submitting the song! I really enjoyed it. The sound and the guitars were excellent, though I did think it was a bit repetitive, which is the only thing I wasn't big on. Overall, a great song and I think that fans will like it! Hope to hear more music from you guys soon! -Lauren
Hi David, Thanks for sending in "Wishing Well." I thought that the song had a beautiful arrangement with great vocals. I have no complaints or improvements for the track. Please send me more songs when you have them. Would love to hear more :)
Hi Blake! Thanks for sending in "Nothing Changes"! I really enjoyed the song and thought that it would be a good choice for a single, since its a catchy track. As I was listening I didn't hear anything that I would change. I hope this feedback was helpful to you! -Lauren
Hello! Fantastic track. I loved how catchy the song was and how the music and lyrics flowed together seamlessly. Please let me know when you guys release new songs. Would love to hear more. I have added the song to my Spotify playlist. -Lauren
Hello! I loved the simplicity of "Ghosts" and how it really pulls the audience in with the guitars and drums. Is this sound the general direction of the songs on New Vintage? I really would love to hear more, so feel free to send more new songs my way! -Lauren
Hello! I really liked the song. The track has a nice flow to it and everything fits well together. The only thing I would change about it is the phone messages included in the song. I felt that having these in there were a distraction when listening to the music, particularly since I could not hear them well, and it was taking away from the tune's overall sound.
Hi Cole, I really liked the song and the shots of the city (I'm assuming its Columbia?) I thought that the video flowed really well and your performance was good. I didn't find anything that needed improvement, just keeping doing what your doing! Feel feel to send me more music in the future! -Lauren
Hey guys! Glad to hear another new song. As always, "So Much Sky" is a great track with a lot of great sounds and fantastic parts. Thanks for making music that is enjoyable, it really is a pleasure listening to your songs. Hope all is well!
Hey guys! Great song. I loved the concept of the video and how you mixed in the performance scenes. Every aspect of the song was very strong and catchy, so I think that people would really like you guys a lot. Feel free to send me more songs or videos in the future! -Lauren
I think your real strength here is definitely your piano playing and you have a real ability to play well. However, I wasn't to into the singing. It was a good attempt at doing both at the same time (which is hard to do,) however your voice did not gel well with the song, and that aspect of the song was a letdown. Other than that, you did a great job.
