Thanks for stopping by! Let me explain what this is all about…

I first started making up songs when I was 6 years old, sitting on a step-stool in my parents’ garage in New Zealand with an old curtain for long hair and my mum’s wooden tennis racquet as a guitar. Ever since then, the songs have kept coming but they stayed in my head until, finally, it was time to get some expert help and release a few into the wild (a.k.a. the most fun midlife “crisis” ever).

Denizen, my debut EP, is a collection of 6 original songs and one cover. The songs were written purely for my own entertainment and not to fit any particular genre, one of them doesn’t even have a chorus, or maybe it’s all chorus..? The joy of ignorance is you don’t know when you’re breaking a rule (Marc knew, but he let me break it anyway).

BelKamo is a word I made up by combining the place I grew-up, and the title of a book I’ve never been able to finish (honestly, there were a few on the list but “War&PeaceKamo” doesn’t have the same ring to it). I named my first collection of songs “Denizen” because I’ve been fortunate to make my home in 2 wonderful countries that didn’t start out as my own.

Getting this music ready for you has been a blast - I’ve loved the whole process, from learning how to belly breathe, to recognizing what does and does not work for my voice, to hanging out at Warner Brothers in Nashville while Marc and Johnny mixed their magic. Thanks to everyone who has helped along the way, but more than anyone, thanks to Super Dave.

I really hope you enjoy the sounds that came out of my mouth xo

Hello!

I enjoyed the song and ultimately have nothing bad to say about it. I felt that it was catchy and would do well on the radio. Please continue to send new music to me so I can follow your journey.

I like this. Interesting tones and sounds. Simple, catchy hook. Cool idea for a music video, too. I don't think I've ever seen this technique used before. Clever.

What's your story? Your background? Where are you located? What are your plans for promoting the new EP? What are your goals?

Let me know through alan@alancross.ca. That'll get right to me. Meanwhile, I'll share this on my social networks, asking for more input. That'll reach about 100,000 people.
