Hi Jason, I loved the sound of the track and how you incorporated all the different sounds. There's nothing bad that I can say about it. Fantastic job and I wish you the best of luck with the release of your music! Lauren
Gosh Jason that's awsome. Super catchy. I could listen to it on repeat all day long. Feels like a throwback to a simpler time in music. Yes, I recognize the 80's here - good stuff. The only negative I think is the pre-chorus. It just sort of stops the song to a halt before the chorus. Other than that, it's a great song. Great lyrics too.
Nice work for a fully self-produced DIY project. And you're right: very 80s (not that there's anything wrong with that). I'd be interested to see what another producer would do with this track. You have a very good demo. A pro producer would find ways to punch things up in ways you'd never think of. For me, the mix is a little dry and tight. It needs to breathe a little more, something that can probably be achieved with some work on the drum sound. I'd need to sit in a studio with the tracks up on ProTools (or whatever) to give you more information than that (and I'm NOT the person you want messing with your mix.) There's a genre known as "yacht rock" where this might fit nicely. It will, however, require a smoother mix, including the vocals (again, they're a bit dry and perhaps need to be fattened up with double-tracking, harmonizing or outboard effects.) Back to the drums: Are they live or programmed? The playing is very tight, but maybe something slightly looser would give the track a tiny bit of swing. My advice would be to find a pro producer and ask for additional production advice. There are excellent bones here. They just need a pro touch.
